Our Mission

Our mission at Golden Years Advocates is to raise awareness of elder abuse in both care facilities and daily life. Additionally, we strive to provide the resources needed to report and prevent abuse that can be used by American elders and their families.

Elder abuse in America is something that is experienced all too frequently by our elders. Golden Years Advocates serves to provide the general public with a deeper understanding of elder abuse, the scope of the issue, and the action the public can take against abuse. We strive to raise awareness of the abuse that occurs against vulnerable people on a daily basis while encouraging American elders and their families to remain vigilant in order to understand abuse, notice the signs, and take action to protect our elderly loved ones.

The Golden Years Advocates website features three major pieces:

The page entitled Abandoned Duties features a real-life personal account of the first time the author witnessed elder neglect inside of a care facility.

The page entitled Elder Abuse features quality information on the definition of elder abuse, how common elder abuse is, the signs of elder abuse, and ways the public can help prevent elder abuse.

The page entitled Don't Trust Nursing Homes  features an opinion based essay that works to explore more real-life instances of elder abuse, while also questioning whether or not nursing homes are worthy of the publics trust.

The page entitled Resources provides the public with many resources that can be utilized to help combat elder abuse. Resources include the link to help find their Long Term Care Ombudsman, report abuse by state, and a link that enables anyone to donate to their local Adult Protective Services agency.

Although this website contains sensitive information and content, it is important that the public be exposed to these sensitive scenarios in order to proceed with caution in care facilities and protect their loved ones.
